Very common in colonial times, human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) or sleeping sickness to speak of it again in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) with a persistence that is of concern.

Madagascar will celebrate International Volunteer Day (IVD) of 2 to 5 December in Antananarivo.
During the celebration, volunteers meet with children in public primary schools in Antananarivo for awareness of hygiene and cleanliness.
In addition, the Organizing Committee will also distribute basic necessities in a Health Centre based in a childcare center and finally, in the Foyer of prison life.
But the kickoff event of the day will be given by an awareness walk a hundred volunteers from the IVD through the streets of a neighborhood in the capital for washing hands after action safety.
IVD was established December 17, 1985 at the UN General Assembly. Since then, governments, agencies of the United Nations system and civil organizations have joined volunteers around the world to celebrate the 5th of December.
The day of December 4, 2010 will also be launching the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers. Events will take place in 2011 in order to encourage recognition of volunteer development, facilitate networking and cooperation.

The HIV prevalence rate among middle class women who work in Zimbabwe is rising while most women in this category have stable income and lead a comfortable life, showed a recent study.
The study by the National AIDS Council (NAC) and other non-governmental organizations showed that there was a deviation from the norm since the seroprevalence rate in the past was dominant among the poor, illiterate and unemployed.
We thought overall that the most influential members of society have a lower risk of contracting HIV because the more educated and therefore better informed about the potential dangers of the virus.
The communications manager of NAC Orirando Manwere, whose remarks were quoted by The Sunday Mail said that this new trend of HIV infections is the result of an increase in multiple simultaneous relationships.
“The multiple concurrent sexual partnerships are common among single women. Such relationships, which dates back to long, have been identified as a powerful driver of HIV transmission,” he added.
Manwere said the high rate of transmission among women who work might also be attributed to the fact that there was an increase of women who prefer to be single mothers.
“He seems to have a cultural change as some women who work do not prefer to marry today. Such women engage in multiple concurrent partnerships and in some cases they may have more children with different men ‘s exposing to the risk of contracting HIV, “he added.
There is also another category of married women in employment, which also have sexual relations outside marriage, Manwere said, adding that working women often have sex with wealthy men.
Such men are often several partners and this increases the chances of spreading HIV. Working women usually want to lead a “high life” with rich men, even if such men are married, “he said.
The study shows that over 20% of women from the middle class, who were screened voluntarily made recently tested positive for HIV. Furthermore, over 25% of the middle class to high were tested positive compared to less than 20% of women tested positive in the middle class to poor.
The administrator of the resource center SAFAIDS, Joshua Chigodora, said it is likely that HIV prevalence among married couples is higher than among sex workers.
“Research continues to show that the infection rate among married couples is very high. It is very likely that the infection rate among couples is higher than among sex workers,” he said.
In a report entitled “National response to HIV in Zimbabwe, the Operations Director of NAC, Raymond Yekev said that married people are the largest group of people infected with HIV in the country.
Action, an NGO, has launched a campaign to promote relations with one partner.
The campaign was launched throughout the SADC region. Other threats identified in the fight against HIV and AIDS are the marriage of girls who are not old enough to marry and homosexuality.
Despite these new threats, Zimbabwe has made great strides in reducing the impact of HIV and AIDS. A major success: the country has recorded the largest decline in HIV infections in the region.
This phenomenon was attributed to the high use of condoms among others.
According to the report of the NAC, about 174 million condoms were distributed in the country between 2008 and 2009, while more than 15 million female condoms were distributed between 2006 and 2009.
From a political standpoint, the AIDS levy, which was introduced by the government a few years ago, continued to contribute positively to the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Zimbabwe will soon sign the treaty that seeks to limit production and consumption of tobacco products, said Monday that a senior government official.
The legally binding agreement, known as the Framework Convention of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tobacco Control (FCTC) requires signatories to implement scientifically proven measures to reduce tobacco use and damage it causes.
The signing is the first step taken by the protagonists towards full ratification.
Secretary to the Ministry of Health and infant, Dr. Gerald Gwinji, whose remarks were quoted by the state media New Ziana said that the country’s decision to sign was in response to recommendations made by the Committee special mandate to deal with this matter.
Organizations of farmers, tobacco vendors, tobacco companies, cigarette manufacturers and Marketing Council and the tobacco industry (TIMB), Ministries of Health, Economic Planning and Agriculture among others form the special committee should present the strategies to ensure that ratification of the FCTC does not undermine the position of Zimbabwean tobacco.
Dr. Gwinje said the Ministry of Health has provided documentation to the Prosecutor General.
The treaty also commits members to implement measures to protect non-smokers against passive smoking, increase the price of tobacco products to discourage its use and the closure of the ingredients.
So far, 168 countries have ratified the treaty, which entered into force 27 February 2005 and is considered a turning point in reducing tobacco use.
The Eritrea and Zimbabwe did not sign, while Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia and Mozambique have signed but not ratified.

The vendors of mobile chips caught will be brought before courts, warned Monday during a press briefing held in Yaoundé Jean Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam, Cameroon Minister Posts and Telecommunications.
“We have asked mobile operators to remove all chips that find themselves in the hands of sellers and we think they’ll do,” said the minister, adding that street vendors took the hand in the bag liable to prosecution.

“All those who are not identified by that date will have their chips turned off and locked and they will be reactivated after identifying relevant,” said the minister.
Launched in March 2009, this operation was to “prohibit the misuse of mobile phones for purposes prejudicial to public order and security of citizens,” the government said.
“The government can not push back that date indefinitely. There is a time for everything,” said the minister.
He said more than 75% of Cameroonians have a cell phone, village or city, have already been identified.
“It is the duty of government to protect honest citizens because of the criminal use of mobile phones that some have chosen to use it,” he told the minister.
According to estimates, more than 7 million people in Cameroon are subscribers of the three mobile operators, against only 5,000 in 2000. To have the maximum number of subscribers, operators chose to sell to vendors of chips already activated.
